P-System for High-end Closet System Installs

Lamello On The Road with Coastal Millworks, West Palm Beach, FL

Video Transcript: Hey, this is Chris from Lamello USA. We’re here in West Palm Beach, Florida, at Coastal Millworks. Coastal is a great customer of ours. We’re going to go inside and learn a little bit more about how they’ve adopted the P-System and how it works for them. Let’s go have a look.

I’m John Maffet with Coastal Millworks in West Palm Beach, Florida. We’ve been in business since 1990. We manufacture impact-rated hurricane windows and doors, build interior doors, run custom moldings, and provide complete high-end woodwork packages for high-end residential and challenging commercial projects.

Ninety-five percent of everything we sell is pre-finished, installed by us, and then touched up in the field after installation.

We had a monster closet project in a home in Palm Beach—about 100 linear feet around the perimeter of the closet with a double island in the center. The whole thing had to go up a set of stairs, be built, taken apart for finishing, delivered to the job site, hauled up the stairs and through crooked hallways, then reassembled in place.

That was the first time we decided to give the P-System a shot, and it was the best move we ever made. It was very successful, and we’ve used it on several jobs since then. It’s incredibly handy when assembling parts and pieces for tight spaces.

Being able to take flat pieces, wrap them in blankets, and pack them for shipping and delivery is an important part of the process. The shop guys love it—we have two P-Systems in the shop now, and they’re in use every day.

Before, we used pocket screws, magic wire, and similar methods. They were time-consuming and didn’t always give the best results. For larger closets, installation time was about a third less with the P-System. The build time in the shop was about the same since you have to connect it one way or another, but installing a finished product was significantly faster, and touch-up was minimal.

In that aspect, it saved us a lot of time and headaches.
