Everything you need to know about changing cutters efficiently and correctly.

Hello, in this video we’re going to show you how to change the cutter on your Lamello Zeta P2 or Zeta P2 cordless.

Before you do anything with the Zeta, whether you’re taking the base plate off the machine or performing maintenance, always make sure to unplug the machine. Basic safety 101.

Just as a quick intro, at a glance, you can tell which cutter you have in your Zeta. If you have an orange body, that’s a carbide cutter. If you have just a silver body, you know that’s a diamond cutter. As long as you don’t hit any foreign objects with a diamond cutter, you’re going to be good for 10,000 to 15,000 slots.

A carbide cutter needs a little more attention; it’s probably good for around 1,000 to 1,500 slots, less if you’re using abrasive materials like MDF, particle board, or solid surface.

If you need to change the cutter or upgrade to a diamond cutter, the blade change is very easy.

You loosen the tension set lock knob about 7 or 8 turns, and that will allow the machine to slide off its ways. There’s a blade lock, much like an angle grinder. The easiest thing to do is put some pressure on that with a finger and move the blade until it locks into place—just like an angle grinder.

A Torx wrench is included with your Zeta. Use this to loosen the Torx nut, remove the old cutter, and install the new one by reversing the process.

Each cutter has a direction indicator on both the cutter itself and the body of the Zeta, underneath the vertical mechanical drive, showing which direction the cutter needs to go. You can also tell because the teeth rotate in the direction of the dust extraction port.

Once the new cutter is on, reverse the process. Slide the Zeta back onto its ways until it indexes all the way forward. That’s another reason why it’s helpful to place the machine on its face—it helps it index correctly.

Tighten the knob back up, thumb-tight with the Allen wrench, and you’re ready to use the machine again.
